Leqembi: Hope for Slowing Alzheimer’s Progression

An Alzheimer's medication, Leqembi, has been found to slow the decline in memory and thinking abilities in people with early Alzheimer's disease. Over a three-year period, the drug showed a 31% reduction in cognitive decline compared to those who did not take it. This means patients may maintain their cognitive functions longer.

Leqembi works by targeting harmful substances in the brain that contribute to Alzheimer's symptoms. While there are potential side effects,  these mostly occur early in the treatment and are generally manageable. The drug offers a promising option for individuals looking to slow the progression of Alzheimer's. Learn more here(opens in a new tab)

From Kelly Lambrese, RN, BSN, Chief Patient Experience Officer

Leqembi offers a beacon of hope for those living with early Alzheimer's disease and their families. We understand that this diagnosis can be overwhelming, and we're here to provide compassionate care in a comfortable setting.

We offer a serene, welcoming environment that's perfect for Alzheimer's patients who may not thrive in a busy hospital setting. Our infusions are efficient, and we pride ourselves on a flexible schedule. We encourage a pre-visit tour to help patients and caregivers feel at ease, reducing anxiety.  Our facility is designed with comfort in mind. Amenities include television, individual tablets, massaging recliners with USB ports, fleece blankets, and a selection of cold and hot beverages. We also provide a variety of snacks, including low-sugar and gluten-free options.

We coordinate closely with prescribing physicians and ensure they receive all necessary treatment notes after each visit. This commitment to communication helps us provide seamless care and ease for patients.

And, this applies whether a local or visiting.  A lot of people travel to Massachusetts and Rhode Island during the summer.  We are always happy to deliver the same great level of care to visitors and ensure their physician receives everything they need back at home.  For folks traveling elsewhere, the Leqembi Infusion Site Finder(opens in a new tab) is a great resource.

Last, we find patients that engage in reading, doing crossword puzzles, and incorporating physical activity into their daily routines have even better outcomes.  So, we encourage patients to pair this with great medical care!
